This 18 part series explores the main moments in the Bible. This is a long story that takes place over thousands of years. It’s the story of all the ways that God has been trying to rescue and bless and love God’s people since the beginning of time. It’s the story that has been passed down and shared with billions of people. It’s a story that was written for everyone to hear, and at the same time it’s a story written specifically just for you. This chapter of the story is about the Passion.
While Jesus’ teachings and miracles did communicate the character of God to the world, not everyone liked what they were hearing. Many leaders and authority figures became upset with Jesus because he was spreading a message that ran counter to their message of control.
Eventually, some of these leaders conspired against Jesus and he was arrested and sentenced to die on a cross. Many of Jesus’ closest followers deserted Jesus during this most difficult moment in his life. The disciple Peter denied even knowing Jesus. The disciple Judas worked with the leaders to organize Jesus’ arrest.
Jesus’ death was painful and unjust and tragic. Yet, even this dark moment was part of God’s plan. Jesus experienced some of the very worst situations that a human can face. He was betrayed, he was abandoned, he was killed, and he did all of this for us.
The last days of Jesus’ life show us that there is nowhere that Jesus will not go for those he loves. In fact, even death itself was forever changed by Jesus’ sacrifice. Death became a place that Jesus had been; a place now infused with the presence of God.
And so we know, that Jesus is with us in the most difficult moments of our life. And we know that Jesus will be with us in our death and beyond.
